Logo (Delayed Post)

I had a graphic designer come up with a few different possible logos for my website. Below is a screenshot of the designs. When I initially asked him about designing me a logo, I told him what I had in mind, this was the one that I decided to go for in the end.

Below is the final logo that I chose to use, mostly because it is what I had always wanted.

A Tidy Workspace!

From the start of the assignment, I knew that it would be useful for me to have a tidy workspace on photoshop. By this I mean that all of the layers and group has the correct names and group names so that I was able to easily navigate around the design. This saved me a lot of time when I needed to change or adapt a layer. Below is a screenshot from my photoshop screen, showing that all of my folders are names accordingly.

Magazines/ Collectives That Have Inspired Me

I <3 FAKE

I like the use of the full bleed image again and the large bold logo stands out, they have chosen to use a white background for their logo, I use black and use lighter images for it to stand out.

Hero Magazine

HERO is our antidote to the stuffy and over-thought cultural dryness that has gripped menswear publishing. We strive to make a magazine and website that are not afraid to be visually led and arresting – have beautiful photography, amazing fashion and great, informal interviews with actors, designers and friends – and for that to be something to celebrate and revel in.

Again, I find myself looking at really contrasting bold designs, even though this is a screenshot of the magazine cover, the aesthetics and style can be transfered onto a website design, in a way they work side by side.

Dust magazine

The thing that I like about DUST as a collective is that it isn't convention, everything is just different about their works.
One thing that I dislike about the website design is that the categories text on the left hand side of the page is not as legible as it could be. See below picture. Even the magazine logo is a similar if not the same hard to read text!
a
I think that it would be easier to read if the text was different however it is in-keeping with the brand identity.

duST IS A NEW REFRESHING FASHION & ART MAGAZINE. WITH A BIANNUAL PUBLISHING FREQUENCY, DUST WAS BORN IN EARLY 2010 WITH THE DESIRE TO PROVIDE A NEW AND DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW TO THE FASHION MAGAZINE MARKET.

Scans From Sketchbook/ Notes

The below two scans show keyboard short cuts and commands for macs. These were presented to us during a lecture by Andy. I have utilised these command and they have been extremely useful and time saving! I will continue to use these in my future career. My personal favourite being command + or - which makes the screen larger or smaller.

The below scans show the categories/ flow carts for a website. These have been very useful in understanding and distinguishing which category should go where.

The opposite scan is from when I was in the initial design stages of the process, this was key for myself because I was able to visualise what the design would look like, a key when designing. I then took these sketches and showed them and discussed them with peers and tutors inorder to gain different peoples ideas about layout.
The below scan also shows some sketches and  development, most of which relates and can be seen in my final design.
The below and right image shows technical information and notes taken during a lecture with Andy. This information was key when setting up the layout in photoshop.

The below scan shows a number of horizontal scroll websites, these have all been very influential to me during the design of my own website. I have also drawn a sketch of how I wanted the 'slash' sign to be used and how I wanted it to look when finished/ in situ. There are also some sketches of the logo, this again was before I designed the current logo. I have included these scans in order to show my thought process and development.

The below scan is from when I was deciding on what content to put into my website as categories. I took note of my peers categories and then used this information to enable me to figure out what I wanted to use.

Key Words

Key Words:

If I was struggling for inspiration when designing, I went back to the initial key words that I gathered for my proposal, this enables me to get my head back on track and revert back to the task at hand and what I wanted to achieve.
